How to determine your real average blood pressure

Measure in the morning and evening for seven days: early in the morning, and at least two hours after dinner. Each time:

  1. 1Take 2 readings every morning and 2 every evening for 7 consecutive days, 28 readings in total.
  2. 2Morning: measure before taking blood pressure medication and before breakfast or coffee.
  3. 3Evening: measure before bed, or roughly 10 to 12 hours after your morning readings.
  4. 4Wait 1 minute between the first and second reading.
  5. 5Day 1 readings are recorded but not counted in your average.
  6. 6The average of Days 2 through 7 is your real average.
